Gautrain is celebrating National Literacy Month and Heritage Month in September by taking you on an epic journey of magic and wonder with the launch and live online reading of Yolisa’s Magic Map.
Yolisa’s Magic Map follows the exciting adventures of young Yolisa as she travels across Johannesburg on the Gautrain and makes new friends along the way. From a party at Acrobranch to a science show at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, it’s all charted out for her on her magic map.
Story themes to look out for in this colourfully illustrated children’s book include freedom of movement, the convenience of using public transport and the magic of riding on our favourite shiny golden train.
Commissioned by the Gautrain Management Agency, the book is aimed at 10- to 13-year-olds (grades 4 to 7) and comes in three languages: English, isiZulu and Sesotho (available online and in hard copy).
At 11am on Tuesday 15 September 2020, excerpts from this amazing book were read online by legendary storyteller Dr Don Mattera, with a little help from our young friends at Gautrain.
Thank you to those of you who joined our live stream, but if you missed it, you still have a chance to #RideWithYolisa by accessing the e-books online.
Alert your local library, book club or reading group and make a date for a magical ride around Gauteng with Yolisa.
